The Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals, Assistant Commandant General (ACG) Onoja John, says the security outfit is not resting on its oars in addressing the myriad challenges associated with illegal mining activities across the country.
He stressed that recent initiatives introduced by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Wali, have led to improved revenue generation from the mining sector.
The Commander of the Mining Marshals made this known during his lead presentation at the 8th edition of the NSCDC PR Clinic in Lagos on Thursday, with the theme, “Collaborative Security as a Paradigm for Mining Security.”
Inside this hall for the 8th edition of the NSCDC PR Clinic are security experts, members of academia, as well as representatives of the public sector.
The Lagos State Commandant of the NSCDC, while declaring the event open and setting the stage for further deliberations, said the roundtable was timely, considering the present realities in the country.
He highlighted the need for synergy among security agencies in the country, especially in the area of intelligence gathering, in order to achieve the collective objective of securing the nation.
Meanwhile, the Commander of the NSCDC Mining Marshals, ACG Onoja John, while commending the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Abubakar Wali, for his initiatives, said the mining sector had become more attractive following efforts to curtail the activities of illegal miners, with more revenue being generated into government coffers.

In their submissions, participants agreed that the security of national assets and infrastructure is a collective responsibility of all stakeholders, especially members of the public, who they urged to provide credible information to the relevant authorities to help address the incessant vandalism of critical national assets, as well as illegal mining activities.
