The multi-billion Naira Alaba International Market has been closed down by the Lagos State Government over sanitation concerns.
Some traders who arrived early at the market on Monday morning to start the week’s business were locked out of their shops by officials of Lagos State Waste Management Agency under the Ministry of Environment.
Meanwhile, the leadership of Alaba International Market Electronics in their reaction to the closure refuted the issue of not adhering to the State Government regulations as they called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to reopen the market.
They wondered why having engaged the services of the private sector participation over refuse disposal at the market and being up-to-date with their financial commitment the market was still shutdown with any notice.
For them, the closure of the market without prior notice is uncalled for as it is capable of causing chaos now that the economy of the country is facing serious challenges.
