Lalu Declares Zero Tolerance for Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities, Vows to Apprehend, Investigate, and Prosecute Offenders

The Executive Secretary of the National Commission For Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Dr. James David Lalu, has participated in the National Disability Convening held at the Wells Carlton Hotel in Asokoro, Abuja.

The event, themed “Evaluating the Implementation of the Disability Act in Nigeria,” convened stakeholders to discuss pathways to enhancing disability rights in the country.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Lalu reaffirmed the Commission’s unwavering commitment to combatting discrimination against persons with disabilities.

He emphasized the pivotal role of the Commission in curbing such discriminatory practices, asserting that the Commission possesses the necessary capacity to apprehend, investigate, and prosecute offenders.

Dr. Lalu underscored the urgency of enforcing the Disability Act, stating that any form of discrimination against persons with disabilities will be met with decisive action.

Furthermore, Dr. Lalu provided an update on the Commission’s investigation into the alleged discrimination against a person with disability at Murtala Muhammed Airport, KFC outlet highlighting that the franchise in question has taken necessary corrective measures and disciplinary action against the offending staff.

The convening also delved into discussions on institutionalizing inclusion and enforcing disability rights in Nigeria. The event, spanning two days, aims to strategize actionable steps toward creating a more inclusive and equitable society for persons with disabilities.
