The fourth edition of the Lamido Fombina Badminton Championship has ended in Yola, bringing together over one hundred and twenty players from about eighty badminton clubs across Nigeria in a tournament aimed at discovering talents and fostering national unity through sports.
The Federal College of Education Badminton Hall in Yola came alive with thrilling rallies and fierce competition as players battled for honours in the fourth edition of the Lamido Fombina Badminton Championship.
The three-day tournament attracted about one hundred and twenty players representing nearly eighty badminton clubs from different parts of the country, making it one of the largest badminton competitions hosted in the North-East.
The Vice President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, who represented the Federation’s President, commended the organisers for sustaining the championship over the years.
He described the competition as a valuable platform for nurturing young talents and complementing the Federation’s efforts to develop badminton across the country.
The National Chairman of Badminton Clubs in Nigeria also praised the initiative, noting that beyond identifying future champions, the championship provides an avenue for interaction among players from diverse backgrounds, thereby strengthening national unity and peaceful coexistence.
The championship featured competitions in various categories, including men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles, with participants displaying impressive skills and determination throughout the tournament.
