The Imo State branch of the Nigerian Bar Association are unhappy with the Police Area Commander in Owerri, ACP David Ogenyi.

The lawyers want the Police authorities to immediately suspend ACP Ogenyi for alleged assault, humiliation, torture and unlawful detention of a member of the Association, Chigozie Chinaka.

At a press conference in Owerri, the Imo State capital, Friday, the NBA condemned what it described as the dehumanizing treatment meted on Chinaka in the course of providing legal services to his client, Wisdom Maduka who was arrested and detained allegedly on the orders of ACP David Ogenyi on the 5th June, 2023.

They restated the need to end police brutality, torture and actions impeding lawyers from the discharge of their professional duties.

But, the spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye has refuted the allegation by the Imo State chapter of the Nigeria Bar Association, describing it as deliberate attempt to malign the Command.
