Public and private schools in Enugu State, South East Nigeria reopened this Monday for the 2021 academic session after a forced extended Christmas and New Year breaks due to the rising numbers of COVID-19 infection cases in the country.
The resumption of classes is coming amidst concerns of health safety of students and teachers, as many schools recorded low turnout of students within the Enugu metropolis.
Some students and teachers who spoke to ait.live commended the State government and the School Management for the reopening of schools with adequate precautionary measures put in place to protect students and teachers from contracting the virus.

Enugu State government had in a statement through the Ministry of Education directed all schools operating in the state to ensure full compliance with the NCDC guidelines for the containment of coronavirus disease.
The state government has also appealed to parents and guardians to release their wards to schools, assuring them of adequate health safety and protections.
