Nigeria Police Zone 5 Headquarters have arrested a thirty-four-year-old man suspected of attempted rape and murder.
In a statement made available to journalists by the zone’s public relations officer Tijani Momoh, the suspect Peter Osayemwenre was arrested in the early hours of Saturday by the operatives of the Zonal Intelligence Bureau, who acted on intelligence in the case of attempted rape of an eighteen-year-old.
According to Tijani, it was during the preliminary investigation into the case that more facts emerged that the victim, eighteen-year-old Elimian Success met the suspect on November 24 while job hunting along Gapiona Road in Benin City.

While in the room fixed for the interview, the suspect started making sexual advances at her and when she resisted, he tried to force himself on her, closing her mouth with his hands to prevent her from shouting, applying great pressure on her neck, and further inserted her head into a full bucket of water, in an attempt to kill her.
The victim is presently receiving treatment at the Police cottage hospital for injuries sustained in the course of the suspect’s attempt to rape and kill her.
The Police Zonal Public Relations Officer reiterated the commitment of Assistant Inspector General of Zone 5, Tanko Jimeta to fight crime adding that the suspect will be charged in court after a thorough investigation.
