The Police in Jos, the Plateau State capital have confirmed that the man arrested inside a commercial Bank in the city centre, was actually carrying a Fake bomb which looked like an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), but was not.
A young man identified as Benjamin Basil and a student of the Plateau State Polytechnic was caught with an item suspected to be bomb at the premises of a commercial Bank in Jos South area of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday, May 13, at the Dadin Kowa branch of the UBA, when the suspect walked into the banking hall, moved straight to the canter and threatened to detonate a bomb if the sum of N100 Million was not given to him.
Spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, while confirming the incident to ait.live said the Command immediately made a deployment to the Bank after an alarm was raised by officials and a vigilante group who apprehended the suspect.
According to the Police, it was later discovered that the bomb was fake and looking like an IED device, but was not.
Angered by the situation, a mob within the Dadin Kowa community immediately attacked the suspect and demanded his execution, but the Police were able to control the situation before taken him away for further investigations.
