Dr Maryam Babangida became Nigeria’s First Lady in August 1985. As wife of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, her role was laudable and quite visible in the progress of the nation.
She believed in the active participation of women in National Development. Between 1985 and 1993, she established several programmes directed at mobilising Nigerian women.
