The high rate of infant mortality in the Kontagora Emirate of Niger State has become a cause of concern.
This is despite the provisions of General Hospitals and Primary Health Care Centres across the six local government areas that have been recording low patronage.

AIT gathered that a large number of pregnant women give little or no attention to patronising public Health facilities during the prenatal period, to have the desired results from medical doctors and health workers.
Some of them only visit the hospitals when they have complications, according to the Matron of the General Hospital Kontagora.
Among some of the challenges that the General Hospital is contending with are inadequate incubators to cater to the needs of premature babies.
A Kontagora based Non-Governmental Organization has made provision for one, as part of efforts to address the challenge.
The Director-General of the Non-Governmental Organization Dr Zakari led a delegation for the presentation of the incubator.
Dr Baba Wasagi is the Medical Director who received the incubator and promised to ensure its usage.
The provision of the incubator by the Non-Governmental Organization will go a long way to save the many lives that could be lost due to the lack of it.
