The race to the 2027 general elections is gradually taking shape in Enugu, as candidates to fly the All Progressives Congress ticket for the House of Representatives have now emerged.
And while the Saturday exercise went on peacefully in most places, one outcome that caught attention was the loss of ticket by the member representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency, Sunday Umeha, barely eight months after joining the party.
From ward to ward across the state, party members filed out to decide who would carry the APC banner into the 2027 House of Representatives elections.
For Nnolim Nnaji of Nkanu East/Nkanu West, it was a smooth ride as he emerged unopposed, while Chimaobi Atu picked the ticket for Enugu North/Enugu South after defeating his only challenger.
Other serving lawmakers, including Dennis Agbo of Igbo-Eze North/Udenu Federal Constituency, and Anayo Onwuegbu of Aninri/Oji River/Awgu Federal Constituency also secured tickets to return to the Green Chamber.
But in Udi/Ezeagu, the story turned out differently, as Festus Uzor defeated the incumbent, Sunday Umeha in one of the biggest surprises of the primaries.
Governor Peter Mbah, who participated in the exercise in his Owo Ward, says the organisation of the process indicates how structured the APC is as a party.
Chairman of the Enugu APC House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, Solomon Funkekeme
, insists the exercise was conducted peacefully and transparently across the state.
