Military raids gang and militia hideouts in Benue and Nasarawa States

A combined team of Operation “Whirl Stroke” says it has in a special raid operation neutralised 2 gang members of a wanted notorious criminal named Gana in Mtan village in Utenge Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

A statement by the Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major-General John Enenche says the team includes Special Forces troops of Sector 2 deployed in Gbise and Zaki Biam in Benue State and Sector 4 from Taraba State.

The statement says exploitation revealed that Gana narrowly escaped death with gunshot wounds and other members of the gang fled with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

Items reportedly recovered include 2 locally fabricated cartridge guns, 1 dane gun, 2 revolver pistols, 2 motorcycles, 1 camouflage shirt, 1 generator set, 1 bag of gun powder and assorted charms.

The statement adds that Gana’s personal belongings, other items and thatched houses were destroyed.

Similarly, troops of Sector 3 deployed at Ondori in Doma LGA of Nasarawa State acting on credible intelligence apprehended 7 members of the Bassa militia planning to attack some Tiv villages over land disputes.

Items reportedly recovered include locally fabricated machine gun, pistols and dane gun. Other items are 1 dagger, poisoned bows and arrows, desert camouflage, 6 phone handsets and some charms.

The Defence Headquarters says the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation to be handed over to the Nigeria Police.

The Military High Command however requests the general public to continue to provide the Armed Forces with credible information to facilitate its operations around the country.
