The military has taken over in Bangladesh following the sudden resignation of Prime Minister, Sheik Hasina.
Hasina was reportedly evacuated in a helicopter heading to India after her official residence was ransacked by protesters.
Violent protests have engulfed the country in recent weeks, the latests being that of Sunday which killed at least 96 people.
Weeks of protests in the last two months killed at least 260 people following a crack down by security forces on protesters who disagreed with a scrap of job quotas by the government.
That decision was rescinded by the country’s Supreme Court leading to temporary halt to the protests, before it was ignited by Sunday’s action.
The army chief has addressed the nation, saying military rule will be an interim measure.
