The mother of a prospective candidate in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, Ifeanyi Eke, has filed a N100 million suit against the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB and three others.

The suit filed before the Federal High Court in Lagos is over an alleged unsolicited and inappropriate text messages sent to her 15-year-old daughter. Joined as co-respondents in the suit are a JAMB computer-based test centre, Island Computer College Limited, Jibola Bassey and Regina Bassey.

AIT.live also gathered that the plaintiff in her originating summons filed through her lawyer, asked the court for a declaration that the sending of unsolicited and inappropriate text messages to her daughter by Ajibola constituted an interference with her right to private and family life guaranteed by Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution.

In his reaction, the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede cautions parents against enrolling minors for the UTME, while denying that the culprits are not JAMB staff.

The JAMB Registrar in a statement says since the incident happened on January 29, 2024, some suspects have been arrested and the matter reported to the security. He confirms that the Board will be represented in court on the N100 million suit.

Professor Oloyede however insists that by law, the 15-year-old girl in question is underaged as against the rightful age of 18 years to gain admission into the university.
