Murder of Salome; hearing starts in Nasarawa court

Hearing commenced fully today at a Nasarawa State high court in Lafia in the alleged murder of a National Youth Service Corps member, Salome Adaidu by Timilehin Ajayi.

at a state high court in Lafia presided by Justice Simon Aboki.

The suspect this time pleaded not guilty to the crime.

The 32 year old popular singer Oluwatimilehin Daniel Ajayi arrived the state high court in Lafia accompanied by personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

During the hearing, the prosecution counsel, Raymond Umaru filed a motion to amend the name of the defendant from Timilehin Ajayi to Oluwatimilehin Daniel Ajayi in the interest of justice.

The presiding judge, Justice Simon Aboki granted the relief sought by the prosecution counsel after confirming the name from the suspected killer of Salome Adaidu.

The prosecution counsel later presented three witnesses before the court, including the Divisional Police Officer incharge of Karshi police station and an uncle to the deceased.

However, counsel to the defendant, Joseph Bisong while cross examining the witnesses sought to know if forensic investigation was carried out to ascertain if the dismembered body was that of the twenty-four year old female corps member, Salome Adaidu.

In his response, the uncle of the deceased, Adaidu Samson said he was quick to identify her head when brought out from the polythene bag and shown to him.

The presiding judge, Justice Simon Aboki after listening to the two parties adjourned sitting for Tuesday for continuation of hearing.

Nasarawa State government through the State Attorney General, Hauwa Samuel Jugbo had applied and taken over the prosecution of the case from the police in line with the provisions of the law.

Timilehin Ajayi was arrested on 12th February this year for allegedly killing and dismembering the body of Salome Adaidu, his girlfriend and corps member.
