A correspondent of Voice of Nigeria in Zamfara State, Hamisu Danjibga, has been murdered. He was killed by yet-to-be-identified persons.

His body was found in a soakaway behind his residence, in the Samaru Area of the Gusau metropolis. The deceased was declared missing three days ago.

Unknown persons were said to have sent an SMS to his eldest son, demanding a one million Naira ransom, to be provided by Friday, or else he would be handed over to other bandits.

It was said that some Islamiya pupils who were passing behind the residence perceived the strong odour, and called the attention of their teachers, who in turn alerted residents, who rushed and opened the soakaway, where the decomposing veteran journalist’s body was found.

He has since been buried.

Reacting to the incident, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council, has called for a proper investigation into the death of the journalist, Hamisu Danjibga.

A statement by the Council’s Secretary, Ibrahim Ahmad, expressed deep concern over the nature of Danjibga’s demise.

He has appealed to security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The State NUJ consoled the deceased’s family, Voice of Nigeria, VON, and the entire Zamfara State, over the gruesome murder of their colleague.
