The Plateau State Government says Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s recent engagement with leaders of the Igbo community has been misrepresented, insisting his remarks were made in the spirit of reconciliation, appreciation and national unity.
In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Gyang Bere, the Government said the Governor’s comments acknowledged the resilience and contributions of the Igbo community to the growth and development of Plateau State, while encouraging Nigerians to embrace peaceful coexistence and mutual respect.
The statement stressed that Governor Mutfwang did not seek to diminish the experiences of any ethnic group or distort the historical realities of the Nigerian Civil War, rather emphasized the need for healing, understanding and national cohesion.
It further noted that Plateau State has a long-standing tradition of accommodating people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, a legacy built by successive administrations and strengthened through policies that promote inclusion and equal opportunity.
The Government also reaffirmed Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to dialogue, reconciliation and inclusive governance, urging Nigerians to reject divisive narratives and work together to strengthen the country’s unity and peaceful coexistence.
