The National Agency for Foods, Drug Administration and control NAFDAC has continued it’s enforcement activities of moping the streets of Lagos off alcoholic sachet beverages and pet bottles below 200ml with heavy charges on Traders distributors and companies found wanting.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, the DG of NAFDAC professor Mojisola Adeyeye noted that after several years of moratorium for stakeholders to comply with the federal government directives on saving almost 50% of Nigerians Children at risk of alcohol abuse, there were still pockets of resistance from some quarters
After an independent research that underscored the devastating effect of underage drinking of Alcohol on almost 50% of Nigerian Children due to ease of access to products,the decision to ban alcoholic beverages in sachets and Pet Bottles below 200ml became neccessary in 2018.
The process followed several consultations between the federal government regulators with several years of moratorium given for manufacturers to reconfigure production line and shift to larger packaging formats.

Since the eventual commencement of enforcement of this ban in January 2026 , NAFDAC says it has witnessed a higher level of resistance than expected
Other issues of concern at the media briefing include the misuse of antibiotics, antimalarial, and the harmful consequences of street hawking of medicine.
