Director General of the National Agency for Foods, Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC Professor Mojisola Adeyeye has warned farmers to desist from misusing agrochemicals for food production and preservation.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria, Professor Adeyeye said the agency has seized banned pesticides worth N800 million from across four states of the federation.
The seizures are coming amid growing concerns over food safety, toxic chemical residues and threats to public health. Professor Adeyeye said the agency has intensified its nationwide crackdown on banned pesticides,
She warned farmers, agro-chemical dealers, and distributors against the use, sale, and circulation of the prohibited pesticides. Adeyeye said the agency seized the banned agrochemicals in Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo states in 2025, while subsequent enforcement operations uncovered additional consignments of prohibited chemicals across the country.

Adeyeye explained that all applicable phase-out periods under NAFDAC’s completed regulatory measures had ended by January 1, 2026, meaning the affected products could no longer legally be manufactured, imported, distributed, sold or used in the country.
She urged farmers to purchase pesticides only from legitimate agro-input dealers, follow product-label instructions, apply recommended quantities and observe the stipulated intervals between application and harvesting.
