The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), says plans are on to establish a regional training academy for the entire West Africa, in Nasarawa State.
Director General of NAPTIP, Imaan Ibrahim, made this known when she led her team on a courtesy visit to Lafia, the state capital.
She said that the twin evil of human trafficking and irregular migration in Nigeria, remains a concern to the government.
It is in a bid to build capacity to stem the situation, that the NAPTIP team was in Nasarawa State, to team up with the state government.

She added that NAPTIP is collaborating with state governments, to set-up taskforces under the supervision of the Governors, to consolidate on the efforts of the agency.
The taskforces are currently been set up in Nasarawa, Benue and Plateau.
The Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, had expressed appreciation to NAPTIP for its decision to select Nasarawa, as location for its regional training academy’.
Sule said that already, the state has set death penalty to serve as deterrent to the would-be rapists.
He also Inaugurated the state taskforce on human trafficking, with confidence that the committee will be active as it goes about its responsibilities.
