The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has endorsed a constitutional amendment bill seeking to establish state police.
The Speaker, Danladi Jatau, announced the decision during plenary in Lafia and directed the Clerk to communicate the Assembly’s resolution to the National Assembly.
The Sixth Alteration Bill, 2026, seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution to provide for state police services alongside the Nigeria Police Force.
Speaker Danladi Jatau said the proposed framework would allow state police to complement the federal police in tackling insecurity.
Jatau commended members for consulting relevant stakeholders before endorsing the bill.
He said establishing state police would strengthen efforts to protect communities and promote peace across the country.
The endorsement represents the Nasarawa Assembly’s position on the proposed constitutional amendment.
Its resolution will be forwarded to the National Assembly as part of the constitutional amendment process.
