The leading opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State says it will not participate in the November 2, 2024 local government elections in the state for what it describes as the high cost of obtaining expression of interest and nomination forms as well as lack of trust in the electoral body to conduct free and fair elections
The party’s decision was made public in a statement by the party’s State Executive chairman , Francis Orogo made available to journalists in Lafia.
Orogo accusd the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission NASIEC of not giving opposition parties reasons to build confidence in the credibility and fairness of the upcoming elections.
The PDP also says it is unhappy with the failure of the state government to amend the electoral bill to allow election results for councilor positions to be announced at the ward level and those for chairmanship positions at the local government headquarters.
