Ahead of local government elections in Nasarawa State, scheduled for October 6, Governor Abdullahi Sule has unveiled the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC, Regulations 2021, to facilitate the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections.

Governor Sule made the guidelines public in the state capital, he commended the State Electoral Commission for attaining the feat of Nasarawa being the first state in the country to produce a set of regulations which he said are designed to guarantee the independence of the state electoral body, as well as ensure the conduct of credible local government elections in October.

Governor Sule however highlighted the need for the state electoral umpire to lead by example, by adhering to its own regulations.

He also used the opportunity to appeal to political parties and their candidates to be law-abiding during campaigns as well as throughout and beyond the elections and urged political actors to imbibe the culture of managing the joy of victory and pain of defeat.

Chairman of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission, NASIEC, Barrister Ayuba  Usman, said the new regulations became necessary as a result of the determination of the commission to put procedures, rules, and structures in place that enhance the commission’s capacity to deliver on its mandate.

The October 6 elections are to be conducted at ward and councilor levels in all 13 local governments of Nasarawa state.
