Nasarawa State Government has approved N500 million as counterpart funding to scale up the United Nations Children’s Fund, Unicef child nutrition programme.
Governor Abdullahi Sule announced the approval while receiving a Unicef delegation led by the Chief of Field Office, Kaduna, Dr. Gerida Birukila, during an advocacy visit to Government House, Lafia.
Governor Sule said the funding demonstrates the commitment of Nasarawa state to tackling child malnutrition and improving maternal and child health. Governor Sule also commended Unicef for its continued support and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to six months of paid maternity leave in line with exclusive breastfeeding recommendations.
Dr. Birukila, congratulated Nasarawa state for winning the Leadership Challenge Award and urged the state government to intensify efforts to address child malnutrition.
She noted that about 25,000 children require nutrition treatment and therefore called for sustained investment and awareness campaigns on exclusive breastfeeding.
