The delay in the implementation of the 70 thousand naira minimum wage has drawn criticism from stakeholders in the labour movement.
They made their position known at a capacity-building workshop for branch principal officers of the nonacademic staff union of educational-associated institutions (NASU) held at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS.
Secretary general of NASU and plateau state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress in their separate addresses, criticized what they called policy somersault by the government which has rendered the 70 thousand naira minimum wage increase useless.
The Plateau state head of service Stephen Godongs , said the Plateau state government is in the process of implementing the new 70 thousand Naira minimum wage and appealed for understanding on the part of workers.

Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies NIPSS Prof. Ayo Omotayo who was the keynote speaker at the event called on union leaders to be steadfast in the pursuit of better welfare for workers.
The two-day workshop with the theme dynamics of leadership in a challenging sociopolitical economy, is aimed at building the capacity of branch leaders of NASU to be better equipped to move the union forward.
