National Assembly Postpones Resumption of Plenary to March 5, 2026

National Assembly

The National Assembly has announced the postponement of plenary resumption, which was earlier scheduled for Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Plenary will now resume on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

In an official notice issued to Senators and House of Representatives members, the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, explained that the adjustment became necessary to enable Committees of both chambers to conclude their ongoing interface sessions with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on the proposed 2026 Appropriation Bill.

The Federal Government had presented a proposed budget of N58.1 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year to the National Assembly.

The two chambers subsequently suspended plenary sittings to allow relevant Committees to engage extensively with MDAs in defence of their budget proposals and to ensure detailed scrutiny of the estimates.

The leadership of the National Assembly emphasised that the goal is to ensure the passage of the 2026 Appropriation Bill before the end of February 2026, although this timeline may no longer be feasible.

This timeline is considered critical, as the implementation cycles of both the 2024 and 2025 budgets are expected to end on March 1, 2026.

Members are advised to take note of the new resumption date and time, and to make the necessary arrangements to ensure full attendance.
