Activities in the National Assembly were grounded on Monday as members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, PASAN and National Assembly Service Commission, NASC commenced an indefinite strike.
The industrial action is to demand the implementation of a subsisting memorandum of understanding for payment of all arrears and other conditions of service jointly signed by National Assembly Service Commission, the National Assembly management and the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria on April 12, 2021.
The striking workers on Monday mounted surveillance at the entrance of the National Assembly complex preventing lawmakers and staff of various financial institutions operating inside the complex from gaining access.
The workers insisted that the industrial action will continue until all items in the memorandum of understanding which include revised condition of service, training and re-training of staff, payment of minimum wage arrears, leave grant and other allowances are met by the National Assembly Management.
They directed all their members to stay at home from Tuesday in furtherance of the indefinite strike.
