Three thousand, eight hundred, and forty-one staff members of the National Assembly are being trained in Artificial Intelligence and other professional skills to improve legislative efficiency and service delivery.
The capacity-building training is coming just as a proposed pension reform for its workers awaits consideration by the House of Representatives.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Abuja, The Director of Training and Staff Development, Ike-Chinwo Justina, said the programme covers staff from Grade Level 04 to 17 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to their daily responsibilities, as management reaffirmed its commitment to continuous training, improved productivity, and effective legislative support.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, represented by the Secretary of Human Resources and Staff Development, Essien Eyo Essien, said about 750 staff members were participating in the current session, with the programme designed to accommodate all 3,841 personnel on the Assembly’s payroll.
On pension reform, Ogunlana disclosed that the proposed legislation had been passed by the Senate and was awaiting consideration by the House of Representatives.
The Executive Director of Research Enterprise Systems, Professor Fatai Aremu, said the training would equip staff with practical skills in artificial intelligence, teamwork, and financial management.
He noted that AI could support the preparation of bills, speeches, reports, and research materials while cautioning staff against relying blindly on AI-generated information.
