The National Economic Council (NEC) has resolved to boost non-oil revenue and deepen engagement with stakeholders, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic blueprint.

This was announced at the 156th meeting of NEC, which was held virtually late Thursday.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, who chairs NEC, emphasized the need for accelerated transition from oil to non-oil economy through competitive manufacturing, export diversification, and private sector investment.

He noted that non-oil sectors, such as agriculture, are increasingly driving Nigeria’s revenue growth.

The Council also approved a committee to oversee the implementation of President Tinubu’s legacy projects, including the Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry highways.

The committee is chaired by the Governor of Cross River State and includes governors from other regions.

The NEC meeting also discussed the World Bank’s Country Partnership Framework, which aims to support Nigeria’s development goals, including investing in human capital and promoting sustainable agricultural value-chains.

The Council commits to working with the World Bank to implement President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
