A Senior Advocate of Nigeria Yakubu Maikyau, has emerged the 36th President of the NIgerian Bar Association NBA in the just concluded election of the association.
The duration for the elections which spanned a period of 24 hours, saw the ballots opening at exactly 12 .a.m on Saturday, and closing at 11.59 p.m same day after months of preparations by the Electoral Committee and campaigns by Candidates for various offices.
The president elect Yakubu Maikyau, emerged with majority votes after polling a total of 22,342 votes to defeat his major challenger, Joe-Kyari Gadzama, who got 10,842 votes out of 34,564 votes that were cast.
While the other contender for the NBA top position,Taidi Gunu, got 1, 380 votes, representing 4% of a total number of 34, 554 votes that were cast for the position.

The Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the NBA (ECNBA) Ayodele Akintunde SAN, announced the results.
Among others who emerged winners for other national offices of the NBA includes; Linda Bala for NBA first Vice President, Clement Ugo as second Vice President, and Amanda Demechi-Asagba, President of the African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) as Third Vice President.
The president elect succeeds the outgoing President, Olumide Akpata who made history in the 2020 polls, being the first “non-silk” to become NBA President in the last 10 years since commencement of the association.
