The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Public Interest and Development Law, NBA-SPIDEL, has raised concerns over barriers to access to justice, delays in the administration of justice, abuses in places of detention and weaknesses in democratic institutions.
Chairman of the section, Uju Agomoh, also called for stronger accountability, improved legal aid, effective detention oversight, and greater use of non-custodial measures to protect citizens’ rights and strengthen the justice system.
Agomoh spoke in Abuja while announcing the 2026 NBA-SPIDEL Annual Conference, scheduled for November 10 to 13 at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Abia State.
The conference, themed “In Public Interest: Advancing Justice, Democracy and Development,” will bring together stakeholders to discuss justice-sector reforms, human rights, constitutional governance, corruption, terrorism financing, policing and sustainable development.
Agomoh said the conference is expected to produce practical solutions and commitments beyond the event.
