The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has refuted a trending social media story claiming that it has ordered telecommunication service providers to shut down their sites in Katsina State as was done in the neighbouring Zamfara State.
The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Professor Umar Danbatta, who spoke to the state government, said the story is false.

The reaction is contained in a statement signed by the Director-General, Media to the Katsina Governor, Abdu Labaran.
According to the statement, Danbatta said that the purported letter trending in the social media was a cloned version of the one sent to Zamfara State, where there is a total shutdown of telecom sites.
He, therefore, advised that the trending news, suggesting that similar action would be effected in Katsina State should be disregarded, as it did not emanate from the commission.
