The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has confirmed 13 cases of Dengue fever reported from three local government areas of Sokoto State, North-West Nigeria. They are Sokoto South, Wamako and Dange Shuni Local Government Areas.
In a statement released on Sunday, the NCDC called for vigilance due to the potential for the outbreak to escalate despite the current moderate risk level. They urged Nigerians, particularly those in Sokoto State, to adhere strictly to preventive measures such as wearing protective clothing, using insecticide-treated nets, and maintaining proper sanitation.
The statement noted that the NCDC was collaborating with the National Emerging Viral Hemorrhagic Diseases Technical Working Group and already conducted a rapid risk assessment to guide preparedness efforts.
The Centre also said that already it has activated the Incident Coordination Centre and initiated the development of an emergency incident action plan for Dengue Fever in the country.
