The anti- Drug agency, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency( NDLEA) has publicly destroyed assorted illicit drugs worth over three hundred billion naira in its renewed efforts to curb the illegal drug business in the country .

The Chairman, NDLEA,Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa in his speech described the exercise as a demonstration of Nigeria’s determination to protect its citizens and disrupt the resources available to criminal networks.

The destroyed consignments comprised mainly cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and various strains of cannabis, including Canadian loud and Skunk.

According to the NDLEA, 246,864.535kg of the drugs were seized by its Lagos Strategic command between April 2025 and May 2026.

Another 83,001kg came from the MMA, Tin Can, and Apapa strategic commands, the marine command, and a special operations unit in Lagos.

The Chairman, NDLEA,Brig. Gen Buba Marwa(rtd) explained that beyond every kilogram of narcotics destroyed lies a story of a young life at risk, a family torn apart by addictions and communities endangered by drug-related crimes and impaired driving.

Marwa also linked drug trafficking to Nigeria’s wider security challenges, noting that the illicit trade helps finance organised crimes, terrorism, and violent extremism.

The Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by the SSG, Bimbola Salu- Hundeyin as well as other dignitaries present described the scale of the destruction as a remininder of the seriousness of the drug threat facing communities and young people.

He noted that it will serve as a deterrent to the drug barons and their collaborators in the renewed fight against illegal drug business in the country.
