The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has collaborated with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, and the Nigerian Police Force, NPF, in the fight against rape, sexual and gender-based violence.
The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Tony Ojukwu, made this known at a meeting held in Abuja.
While expressing the determination of the Commission to curb the rising cases of rape in the country, Ojukwu said the Commission will frequently engage the NAPTIP and the NPF to ensure urgent prosecution of such cases.
He, however, called on the general public to desist from stigmatizing and humiliating victims as it will not encourage Victims to speak up.
The Executive Secretary of NHRC further urged officials of the law enforcement agencies to avoid asking suggestive contributory negligence questions.
