The ECOWAS envoy to Niger Republic, Abdulsalami Abubakar has hinted of the possibility of a diplomatic solution to the political standoff in that country, without necessarily resorting to the use of force.
Abubakar, who is a former military leader in Nigeria, said this on Tuesday when he visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
His visit to Nigeria’s seat of power was to brief the President on the outcome of his mission to the landlocked West African country.
Speaking with State house Correspondents, retired General Abdusalami Abubakar says the announcement of a 3-year transition plan by the Military Junta is solely their position, but he believes President Tinubu as Chairman of ECOWAS will consult with other members of the Authority of Heads of State, noting that talks will also continue towards resolving the impasse.
