Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger State says he wishes to be referred to as ‘Farmer-Governor,” rather than be addressed as ‘His Excellency’, ‘Honourable’ or ascribed with any high sounding title.
Governor Bago who said this during the presentation of the 2024 budget to the state House of Assembly, said the idea is to reinforce the priority his administration places on agriculture.
The governor, who wore a t-shirt and trousers during the budget presentation, however, said at no time did he ban the wearing of flowing gowns, known as ‘agbada,’ by civil servants, as reported by sections of the media.
He explained that he only emphasised the need for civil servants working in the Ministries Of Works, Agriculture and other ministries to dress in outfits that would enable them function properly.
Bago also said rom the budget presentation at the State Assembly, he is heading straight to his farm to match his words with action.
