The Adamawa State Government has marked Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary with patients receiving treatment in hospitals in Yola, providing cash and essential items to some of them and their families.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was represented by members of the State Executive Council at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, and the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital.
Away from the usual Independence Day celebrations, these government officials are spending part of the anniversary with people confined to hospital beds.
Representing Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the delegation moved through the children’s ward, labour ward, surgical wards and other sections of the two hospitals, interacting with patients and their relatives.

Commissioner for Information, Leader Leneke, said the visit was directed by Governor Fintiri to include people unable to participate in Independence Day activities because they are receiving medical treatment.
The delegation presented toiletries and cash assistance to selected patients and their relatives.
For some of the beneficiaries, the assistance comes at a time when illness has also placed additional financial pressure on their families.
Government officials also interacted with hospital management and encouraged patients to follow medical advice as they continue their treatment.
The hospital visits formed part of activities in Adamawa State marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
