Nigeria has reaffirmed its leadership role in global migration governance at the ongoing International Migration Review Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Speaking on behalf of the African Group, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard Doro, called for stronger international cooperation in addressing migration challenges and protecting the rights of migrants.

Delivering Nigeria’s national statement, the Minister noted that the country has completed the review and validation of its National Migration Policy and developed an implementation framework aimed at aligning global migration objectives with national priorities.

Dr. Doro also advocated for expanded legal migration pathways, improved labour mobility systems, mutual recognition of qualifications, and reduced remittance transfer costs to support sustainable development across Africa.

The International Migration Review Forum continues at the United Nations General Assembly with world leaders and stakeholders discussing the future of global migration governance and sustainable development.
