The Federal Government has expressed deep condolences to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China following a tragic landslide in Tanchang County, Gansu Province, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigeria said the disaster has so far claimed at least 21 lives, with several others affected, as rescue operations continue.
The Ministry commended the Chinese authorities and rescue teams for their swift response in saving lives and providing relief to those impacted.
Reaffirming the bilateral ties between the two nations, the Federal Government noted that Nigeria and China share a long-standing strategic partnership built on mutual respect, friendship, and cooperation.
The Government prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed, the speedy recovery of the injured, and strength and comfort for the bereaved families.
