Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation following a meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, and the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Ivorian Diaspora, Nialé Kaba.
The meeting held on the sidelines of the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on Thursday, 16th July 2026.
Enikanolaiye commended the excellent bilateral relations between both countries and appreciated the prompt audience granted by his Ivorian counterpart.
He noted the need for increased collaboration and regular consultation between Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire as key players in the region. He also reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to deepening bilateral engagements across West Africa to promote regional peace, stability and prosperity.

In her remarks, Minister Kaba underscored the importance of cooperation and referenced her recent meeting with Nigeria’s Ahunna Eziakonwa following her appointment as Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations. She called for the revitalisation of the Nigeria-Côte d’Ivoire Bi-National Commission, whose last session was held in Abidjan in 2021.
Both Ministers agreed to jointly review existing bilateral agreements and their level of implementation, while exploring new areas of cooperation. They further committed to enhancing collaboration across all sectors, both bilaterally and multilaterally, for the benefit of the citizens of both countries and to advance regional integration.
