The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, says 53 primary contacts are now under monitoring as investigations extend to another emergency room visited by the infected patient before her diagnosis.
The increase from the 44 contacts initially reported highlights the growing scope of investigations to determine possible exposure and prevent further transmission.
Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday, NCDC Director-General, Dr. Jide Idris, said 44 of the 53 primary contacts were linked to the health facility where the patient received treatment.

The nine additional contacts include three members of the patient’s household and individuals who attended to her during an earlier visit to an emergency room.
Health officials are now tracing people who may have come into contact with the patient at both locations, while also identifying secondary contacts who could have been exposed through those already being monitored.
The NCDC says it is strengthening infection prevention and control measures while working to improve preparedness at state and local government levels.
