In a bid to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability in the oil and gas sector, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC has introduced the Upstream Petroleum Decarbonisation Template, UPDT.
This innovative template is designed to guide operators in the upstream oil and gas sector to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, adopt low-carbon technologies, and implement energy-efficient practices.
Key features of the UPDT includes: Mandatory greenhouse gas emissions reduction, Adoption of low-carbon technologies, Implementation of energy efficiency measures, Integration of renewables in operations and Development of decarbonisation strategies and plans.

The UPDT is a critical step towards achieving Nigeria’s commitment to net-zero emissions by 2060.
The Commission in a statement issued on Tuesday says it will provide technical guidance and support to operators to ensure seamless implementation.
According to the Commission’s Chief Executive, Gbenga Komolafe, “The UPDT is a significant milestone in our journey towards a sustainable energy future we are committed to”.
