Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, believes Nigeria has reached a point where education must be treated as a national emergency, if it is to secure the future of its growing young population.
He spoke on Wednesday at the 2026 Enugu Education Summit, where he unveiled the Enugu Education Policy and its implementation guidelines.
With the theme, “Transforming Education for the Future,” the summit brought together education stakeholders, policymakers and development partners to discuss how to make the changes in Enugu State’s education sector lasting and measurable.
For Governor Mbah, the stakes are high. He says Nigeria’s growing youth population could become a demographic dividend or a disaster, depending on how much is invested in their education.

That thinking, explains his administration’s decision to build new schools instead of simply renovating old ones.
For stakeholders, the real test now begins with implementation, and whether the policy can produce better learning and better lives for Enugu’s children.
