Former Labour Party presidential candidate and now presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has described his former running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, as his brother despite their political differences.
Obi was reacting to comments by Datti, reportedly questioning his fitness to rescue Nigeria.
In a statement by the Peter Obi Media Office, Obi said he does not believe Datti intended to describe him as unfit, stressing that their relationship goes beyond politics.
He said political differences should not erase their bond, adding that Nigeria needs reconciliation, mutual understanding, and a commitment to place the nation above personal grievances.
Obi expressed hope that he and Datti would one day reunite, not as political adversaries, but as brothers who shared a common journey.
He also expressed optimism that Nigeria’s present difficulties will pass and that a new Nigeria is possible.
