The Federal Government has unveiled its plans to stabilise and sustain the power sector in its bid to transform the country’s economy from its present position.
Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe who briefed journalists in Lagos said the country is targeting 40% of its total power requirement to come from renewable energy by the year 2060.
He explained that President Bola Tinubu’s renewed Hope Agenda especially in the power sector is on the right trajectory following key initiatives introduced to uplift the lives of the people for good.
This interactive session according to the Minister when he sought the cooperation of the media marks the dawn of a new era to reset the power sector for good.
He commended President Tinubu for the initiative to reform the power sector by initiating metering for electricity consumers across the country rather than the costly estimated billing system used in the past which had eroded electricity consumer’s confidence in the authorities.

The Minister explained that the enactment of the Power Act 2023, changed the landscape as it allowed state governors and other Nigerians to embrace innovation, competition and investment opportunities in the power sector
The recent recruitment drive where 5000 young Nigerians were trained on metering is what Tegbe said would reduce unemployment rate, as upon completion of their training programme, they would be absorbed by the electricity distribution companies, Discos.
The comprehensive technical audit of the transmission segment initiated by the Federal Government he stressed would help sustain power supply.
