The Nigerian government has unveiled 39 agricultural curricula and 31 National Occupational Standards in a major push to revolutionize food security and produce industry-ready graduates.

At the unveiling in Abuja, Education Minister Tunji Alausa said that the new framework adopts an 80 per cent practical to 20 per cent theory training model.

At the unveiling in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a critical investment in human capital aimed at bridging the gap between classroom learning and industry demands.

Alausa disclosed that the reform that began in 2025 is a product of collaboration between the Federal Ministries of Education, Agriculture and Food Security, and Livestock Development, alongside regulatory agencies and the private sector.

The exercise he said produced 32 reviewed and seven newly developed curricula for National Diploma, Higher National Diploma, and Nigeria Certificate in Education programmes.

According to the Education Minister central to the reform, it is the 80 to 20 practical-to-theoretical ratio, which prioritizes hands-on learning in teaching farms, greenhouses, processing facilities, and technology hubs.

The curricula also integrate emerging fields such as precision agriculture, Climate-Smart agriculture, and artificial insemination.

The minister stressed that the ultimate measure of success will be practical competence of graduates, increased agricultural output, and job creation, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
