The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, says despite the challenges of small arms proliferation and porous borders, the Nigerian Army has remained resilient and committed to safeguarding the nation’s territorial integrity.
Lt General Shaibu made this known in Port Harcourt during his opening address to herald the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration.
The event featured a lecture by retired General Martin Agwai, titled: “Protecting the People and the Dynamics of Nigeria’s National Security: The Way Forward for the Nigerian Army.
Top military officers and security experts from within and outside the country were in attendance at the main event- 2026 Army day celebration.
In his address, Chief of Army staff, Lt General Shaibu acknowledged the complex security environment facing the nation.
He emphasized that while the military grapples with the fallout of illicit arms and the exploitation of sectarian divisions, the officers and men of the Nigerian Army have remained resolute in their mandate to protect the territorial integrity of the nation.
To enhance professionalism, the Chief of Army Staff pledged that the Nigerian Army will aggressively adopt emerging technologies, strengthen collaborations with international allies, and prioritize the welfare of personnel.
The Special Guest of Honour, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Agho Mujakperou (Rtd), the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, commended the Army for sustaining the annual lecture series.
He also lauded General Martin Agwai for his in-depth analysis on the dynamics of national security and the future trajectory of the Force.
The event featured an exhibition of historic military artifacts.
Some Retired Generals were recognized for their service, while cash prizes were presented to winners of the Chief of Army Staff Literary Competition, which spanned primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions in the categories of art, essay writing, and poetry.
