The Nigerian Army has intensified efforts to counter the growing threat of Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, by training more specialist engineers and strengthening collaboration with local and international partners.
The initiative formed the focus of a seminar organised by the 41 Engineer Brigade in Kaduna as part of activities marking the graduation of Explosive Ordnance Disposal, EOD X2 Course 126.

Supported by the British Military Assistance Training Team, BMATT, and the German Training and Assistance Group, GTAG, the training is aimed at equipping Nigerian Army engineers with advanced skills to detect, neutralise and safely dispose of improvised explosive devices in operational theatres.
Representing the Commander, Corps of Engineers, Major General Shamsideen Shafaru, Major General Josiah Attah said the training underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to developing a highly skilled engineering corps capable of supporting ongoing military operations across the country.

He noted that the increasing use of Improvised Explosive Devices by criminal elements and insurgents has become one of the greatest security challenges confronting the military, making specialised training and collaboration imperative.
With the theme, “Building Nigerian Army Engineers’ Capacity on Counter-Improvised Explosive Devices in Contemporary Security Operations,” the seminar is expected to expand specialist training, strengthen operational capabilities and enhance the Nigerian Army’s preparedness to counter evolving IED threats in support of national security.
