About 120 military veterans and widows of fallen soldiers have received equipment, food and cash support from the Nigerian Legion at an empowerment programme in Abuja.
Speaking at the event this Thursday, the Legion’s National Chairman, Grace Henry, called for stronger government collaboration to improve beneficiaries’ welfare and restore their dignity.
Wheelchairs, grinding machines and sewing machines were among the items distributed at the fourth edition of the Nigerian Legion’s empowerment programme in Abuja.
For the veterans and widows receiving support, the initiative is intended to meet immediate needs and provide opportunities to earn a living.
National Chairman Grace Henry says the Legion is strengthening collaboration with the government to improve welfare support for retired personnel and families of fallen soldiers.
The programme also brought renewed assurances from the Federal Ministry of Defence and other relevant bodies on support for veterans, wounded military personnel and bereaved families.
Henry said about 120 veterans and widows benefited from the programme, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Alongside the equipment, beneficiaries received foodstuffs and cash to support their households.
